Immigration Advocacy
Thus says the Lord of hosts: Render true judgements, show kindness and mercy to one another; do not oppress the widow, the orphan, the alien, or the poor; and do not devise evil in your hearts against one another.
Zechariah 7:9-10
RCHP has had an active immigration committee since 2002, when our members first started sharing their experiences of trouble with the U.S. Immigration System. Since that time RCHP has led twice-weekly visits to Elizabeth Detention Center, participated in endless rallies and vigils, written immigration legislation and offer Sanctuary, for long periods of time, on two different occasions. We are considered a leading congregation in the fight for immigration justice. RCHP has been the central partner in creating D.I.R.E. Deportation and Immigration Response Equipo. This organization provides Rapid Response Services through the hotline 1-888-DIRE-SOS, Support Services (housing, case management, counseling, food, referrals) to those who are experiencing trauma related to detention/deportation, and Legal Services. Monthly community meetings are usually the 4th Thursday of the month, at noon.
