Racial Justice
It is impossible to talk about justice—in any of its forms—without talking about the systems of racial oppression that exist in every corner of our world, especially in our current American context. For that reason, many of the programs and initiatives for justice and healing are indirectly about combatting racism.
Today, as evidence of how race functions within the legal, economic, judicial, and social systems is more visible than ever, we also see a reinforcement of the justifications of anti-Black and anti-Immigrant violence, and so we feel even more obligated to respond with the public love of Christ, against the sins of hatred, white supremacy, and white indifference.
We are committed to supporting educational efforts to transform ourselves and our society. We are committed to supporting movements to abolish racism in all its forms. We are committed to identify ourselves with the liberation struggles, consistent with the work of God in our scriptures.
Two of the strongest allies and leaders for racial justice in our local context, among several others, are Salvation and Social Justice and the Black Community Watchline, both of whom are led by local Black clergy and organizers, and who speak and act prophetically in our state.
